China Unicom Group, one of China's major telecommunications operators, has revealed plans for the construction of a nearly 3,000-kilometer-long submarine optical fiber cable, which will span from Hong Kong to Sihanoukville in southern Cambodia. The optical cable is a high-performance communication cable designed for transmitting data using light. It consists of a core surrounded by cladding, which helps to guide the light signals. This project represents Cambodia's inaugural. In 2024, Cambodia exported $22. 7M of Optical fibres and cables, making it the 39th largest exporter of Optical fibres and cables (out of 167) in the world.
